We are highly specialized in bariatric, size, and health psychology. We are passionate about what we do, and deeply understand the struggles and needs of the bariatric and size communities. We have worked in this community for many years. This is a clinical specialty that is near and dear to our hearts both professionally and personally. we. get. it.
Psychological services and support for folks who struggle with eating struggles/health issues are different than providers who specialize in more "traditionally" classified eating disorders (like anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorders). Our work is informed by the understanding that it is not merely "eating too much," but rather a complex interaction between a variety of factors: biological, psychological, sociological and environmental factors. we. get. it. We keenly understand the hard work that can be done for years, with little long-term changes, for some patients. The frustration and exhaustion of the merry-go-round of dieting and other measures you have tried to change your life and health. Diets do not work. Let us help. Let us support you. we. get. it. It is important to note, our goals in supporting the size and bariatric communities is not about promoting weight loss. Weight loss is not the measurement of success. That is unethical and too simple. We work to aid patients in identifying their health goals and meeting those goals in a variety of ways. One of the goals, for example, may be working on remission from health conditions, working that may be influenced by a variety of factors-such as infertility, diabetes, joint pain, fatty liver, etc. Health can come at many sizes. You get to chose what that means for you. |
